Hug a librarian day!

Today, we celebrate the international Hug a Librarian day! After giving a very big hug to our Lisa Lundgren, librarian and desk officer at the award office, she had to answer a few questions…

When did you decide to become a librarian? I’ve been hanging out in libraries for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until I flipped through the university catalogue, trying to figure out which courses to take, that it dawned on me that I could actually make a living out of it. Seemed like a no-brainer!

What´s the coolest thing about being a librarian? It’s all about the books!

When did your interest in books arise? My parents always made sure that there were plenty of books around, so I can’t really recall a specific time. But the first book I remember is called Örjan, den höjdrädda örnen (translates to “Örjan, the eagle that was afraid to fly”), written by Lars Klinting.

What kind of books do you prefer? Actually most of the books I read are non-fiction, biographies as well as books about world history and politics. I guess it’s because I feel a need to understand the mechanisms of the society we live in today. In between that I read a lot of young adult fiction.

Now, you and the award office are working very intense with the celebration of ALMA’s 10th anniversary. What´s your favorite book among the previous ALMA recipients? I can only pick one? Tricky, and almost impossible! After much pondering I will go with The Red Tree by Shaun Tan. It continues to amaze me every time I pick it up!
