German Youth Literature Awards …

… or the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis as it is probably more commonly known was awarded last night at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

The award is organized by the Association for Children’s and Youth Liturature (AKJ) and supported by the German Federal Ministry for families, senior citizens, women and young.

This year’s winner are:

Picture book

Garmans Sommer by Stian Hole and translated from Norwegian by Ina Kronenberger

Children’s book

Meine Mutter ist in Amerika und hat Buffalo Bill getroffen by Jean Regnaud (text) and Émile Bravo (illustration), translated from French by Kai Wilksen.

Young Adult

Such dir was aus, aber beeil dich! by Nadia Budde

Non-fiction

Mutige Menschen by Christian Nürnberger

The choice of the youth jury

Die Tribute von Panem by Suzanne Collins, translated from English by Sylke Hachmeister and Peter Klöss

Special Award for Life Long Achievement

This year’s special award for life long achievement went to the author Mirjam Pressler
