Gothenburg Programme Released

The seminars of the 2010 Gothenburg Book Fair  (23-26 September) has been published. This year’s theme is Africa, and the Award Office hopes for the chance to learn more about a lot of different authors, promoter’s and illustrators from that continent in seminars and lectures. (In associated news: here’s the long list for the Sunday Times 2010 South African literature award.)

Some highlights – when giving the programme the quickest of glances – are:

African children’s literature: by whom, for whom and what about? With Jay Heale, Meshack Asare, Lesley Beake, Ousmane Diarra and Fatou Keïta.

Independence and literature in Kenya: with Wambui Mwangi, Binyavanga Wainaina, Shailja Patel and Billy Kahora.

Graphic Novels – images from Africa: with Elieshi Lema, Dominique Mwankumi, Eyoum Nganguè and Zapiro.

And of course, don’t miss Kitty Crowther’s seminar on Thursday 23 September at 15.00. The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award Recipient discusses her work with Ulla Rhedin, expert on picture books, and Johanna Lindbäck: author, teacher and literature blogger.
