Blog tip: Offbeat Children’s Literature

On the search for something different in children’s literature? The Curious Pages blog is a great way to find complex, quirky books for children. Or as Curious Pages puts it themselves:

“Looking for books about teddy bears or rainbows or feelings? You’re at the wrong place. Here we celebrate the offbeat, the abstract, the unusual, the surreal, the macabre, the inappropriate, the subversive and the funky.”

On their recommendations list? Several titles by Maurice Sendak (2003 ALMA recipient). Image below is from Papa Snap by Tomi Ungerer, one of the 167 nominated candidates for the 2010 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, and also on the recommended list for Curious Pages.
