Please Mr. Postman

Mister Postman look and see, if there’s a letter in your bag for me – With a children’s book motif stamp that is!

Every year since 1956 PostEurop issues EUROPA-stamps with the aim to build awareness of the common roots, culture and history of Europe. This year Children’s Books is the theme, an initiative which the ALMA-award office applauds! Of the many great stamps from all over Europe issued this year on the theme, we would especially like to draw attention to Jersey and Belgium.

Jersey have issued lovely stamps with motifs such as The Mad Hatters Tea Party from Alice in Wonderland and How the Elephant got his Tail, from Kipling’s fable with the same name. Belgium, on the other hand has chosen a more contemporary look with a collaboration between ALMA-award nominee Kitty Crowther and Gerda Dendooven.

Not only Europeans like to stamp their letters with motifs from the world of children books. Already in 2006, the US Post office issued a series of stamps featuring celebs such as the Hungry Caterpillar, Olivia, Curious George and, yep, you guessed it – a Wild Thing.

I just needed to say that I found your site via Goolge and I am glad I did. Keep up the good work and I will make sure to bookmark you for when I have more free time away from the books. Thanks again!
